Since we have received God’s gift of eternal life through faith in Christ, it’s no surprise that giving is an important aspect of our worship. Meeting the monetary needs of others is a huge blessing to the giver, but Jesus is very specific as to how we are to go about giving.
Much like we are instructed not to call attention to ourselves when we pray, we are also not to call attention to ourselves when we give. It is to be done privately and without fanfare. We are to resist any temptation to announce details of our giving, even if we do so with the purest of intentions. Financial gifts are to God’s glory, not ours.
Did you know that the elders of Grace Bible Church don’t monitor who gives monetarily to GBC? Only the Office Manager has access to those records. The elders want to focus on shepherding well, without regard to anyone’s financial contributions. They understand that such matters are between the Lord and the giver.
However, we are so thankful for the generous hearts at GBC. Over the past few months, despite the smaller congregation, giving has grown, allowing GBC to enter the fall semester with a healthy bank balance. No doubt, many gave far more than usual in response to the church’s need. Paul’s words in Philippians 4 seem so appropriate: “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”
Through your generosity, Grace Bible Church will continue to minister to those within the church and within our community. “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Galatians 2:9
